EXCLUSIVE PRIVATE WATER ON THE SAN JUAN RIVER

We are ecstatic to announce a great new exclusive PRIVATE section of the lower San Juan River here in Navajo Dam, for both fishing and hunting. We finally got the lease set up the way we wanted for a great section of prime dry fly water on the San Juan River about 6 miles down stream of our lodge. We will be offering guided wade trips on this section all year. We are also going to be able to access this section on our lower river floats as place to stop and wade for a few hours. The best fishing on this section of water will be the afternoons and evenings. Our goal is to offer a few hours of killer dry fly action on the private section late in the day to a limited number of anglers as the ultimate way to wrap up your day. We plan on limiting this section to only a few anglers each week to keep the area from becoming over fished and pressured. Our goal is to lightly fish this section of river allowing the fish to be rested, covering our lease fee is not our number one goal so access will be limited.

The area of water that we have covers about 3/4 mile of the river but the best dry fly (caddis) water is on the lower half mile of the lease. The upper section will be great dry fly fishing once the PMD's and heavier summer beatis hatches start. There will almost always be good nymph fishing on this section for people looking for a new part of the river to fish, before and after the major summer hatches. There is a small creek also on the property that we are working on cleaning up and getting going as a great trout fishery as well. I would guess that we'll have all the work we are doing on the small creek done by the end of the 2005 season. With the limited access that we are offering please be sure to reserve this section for your stay in advance! We are limiting the section to only a few anglers a week, in order to keep the fish wild and willing.

Most of the fish on this section of the river are wild browns. They are a great fish and strong fighters. The average size of the fish on this section is not as large as in the quality waters of the San Juan River, about 10-15" will be the norm but we have already taken fish to over 20" on this section! The chance to fish under pressured fish with no once else in sight is well worth the trade off! Our guides are always on top of what's happening on this section. They can let you know there thoughts about fishing this area of the river. The lower river is much more susceptible to changes in the weather and flows so the back up plan will always be a day in the quality waters or a trip to another river in the area.

There is a small rod fee for fishing this section of property, $25 for 1 or 2 anglers, we have a guided only rule for the land as well. Since we are leasing a farmers ranch to gain access to the river he has asked us to always have a guide present. We also feel that this will better protect the fish as well as offering a better over all experience since you'll have a local with you that knows the best flies as well as spots!
