TRAVEL WITH US IN 2003 and 2004!
Mongolia - May 22-29,2003:
Chris Guikema, Owner of Rainbow Lodge and Resolution Guide Service on the San Juan
River NM will be your host on this trip of a lifetime. This will be my first trip to
Mongolia, but hopefully not my last! I am looking forward to showing you all the wonders
of Mongolia. I have researched this camp and its owners well, and I am with the utmost
confidence taking many good clients and friends on this trip!
The
dates for our Mongolia trip in 2003 are May 22-29. If the dates for this trip don't fit
your schedule let me know and we can help you plan a trip with dates that work out best
for you. Spring and fall dates are available please let me know if other dates work out
better!!! As of Sept 2002 we still have a few opening for this trip of a lifetime. Please
call me or drop me a email with any and all questions. Cost for the trip is $5200.00 per
person plus air. Flies are included in the price.
Taimen, the fishing
Taimen,
the world's largest salmonid, are capable of reaching 200#!! On the rivers that we will
fish on this trip, 28-30 inches is the average size. To date the largest taimen landed in
camp (on a dry) was 62 inches!!! They are a hard fighting fish with a vicious love for
rodents, ducks, and fish. To witness a fish of this size explode on a mouse pattern and
then clear the water several times, will be an unforgettable experience! The average
number of taimen landed per day is 2-plus with loosing twice that many.
This top water take is one of the most exciting aspects of taimen fishing. Trophy
taiman often come completely out of the water on the take. Others follow the fly with
their fins, heads and tail entirely out of the water! During past seasons anglers have
witnessed taimen eating ducks, mice, lenok and grayling. In one case a fisherman had a
100-pound-plus taimen eat a 12-pound taimen he was fighting.
Lenok and
grayling are probably the most over looked part of the fishing program. Lenok are
Mongolia's version of a trout. They both occupy similar haunts and share a similar love
for hoppers, beetles and other terrestrials. With the proper fly selection anglers can
expect a number of lenok from 16-28 inches and grayling from 10-18 inches. Fly fishing for
the lenok and grayling on lightweight rods will rival some of the best trout fishing in
the American west!
The Camps
The
camps in Mongolia are designed to provide a unrivaled level of service and comfort without
sacrificing the feel of the Mongolian culture. The camp is strategically located to
provide clients an excess of fishing water and brilliant views of the surrounding
mountains and valleys. Cuisine at the camp is a variety of American and Mongolian-style
dishes prepared by local chefs.
Camp consists of a lodge with a large dinning room and sitting area, kitchen and staff
quarters. The bath house includes shower facilitates with hot water, good water pressure,
and a wash area with sinks mirrors and a 110-volt electricity for shaving.
While at camp guests will sleep in well furnished gers. Each ger is 18 feet in diameter
and 9 feet high. These spacious, circular felt tents are equipped with electricity, a wood
stove (that will be lit in the morning by the fire guy), wood floors, hot water, wide
beds, a table, chairs and plenty of room to store and organize fishing gear. Living in a
ger is one of the highlights of the trip for most clients.
